BBQ Competition Etiquette
For The Viewing Public
This is a professional COOKING COMPETITION sanctioned by the Kansas City BBQ Society (KCBS). All of the teams have paid an entry fee to compete. The teams are judged on how their food tastes and looks. This takes a great deal of time and concentration.
Between 11:00 am and 1:30 pm Saturday BBQ teams are preparing their entries for judging and may not be very talkative. Please take this into consideration, these teams started setting up and began cooking on Friday so they have invested a lot of hours and money to compete.
The Awards Ceremony will be on center stage around 3 pm. The teams are competing for money, prizes and bragging rights. The Ohio Veterans BBQ Cook-off is a qualifying event for the State of Ohio Championship and the Jack Daniels World Barbecue Championship. Come cheer on the winning teams.
BBQ teams love to talk about their cooking and their cookers, but remember this is a professional competition and they may be busy preparing an entry for the judges.
Food Samples – Do not take anything from any teams cooking area; this may be their BBQ entry you just destroyed!! BBQ teams are not required to make food samples available to the public. Public food samples are entirely at the discretion of the BBQ team. If a team does not have samples available please respect their wishes.
Do not enter BBQ team cooking areas. Cooking areas can be dangerous. Teams are very busy and have routines that must be completed.
